The definition of nat·ural phil·oso·phy relates to both the natural & the physical world. Which is similar to the framework behind animal self selection (AKA applied zoopharmacognosy). When looking at the modality, we can see the symbiotic connection between the physiology of the body & the natural world, which has evolved between plants and our own biology (and that of animals as well).
Learning more about the modality can help us to recognise the areas of imbalance that might be causing concern within our animals, so that we might able to address these. The process provides us with the opportunity to to gain a better insight into our animals needs, according to the receptors within their body. So that we are able to offer medicinal plants to help achieve optimal wellness.
My name is Vicky Thompson & I have put together this platform to honour the modality called animal self selection. Although I also work other modalities with horses and dogs, I can honestly say that the premise of animal self medication can help on so many levels. Once we begin to understand why the animal might be choosing one medicinal plant over another, we can then begin to "tune in" to what may or may not be going on behind the scenes.
In providing regular sessions, we have the opportunity to reveal what needs to be worked on, in order for us to try to get to the root cause. As a herbal choices consultant (applied zoopharmacognosy) (level 4) I can honestly say that studying the modality truly opened my eyes to the phenomenal natural world that surrounds us.
So much so, that ever since graduating, I have continued my research and education within the field, which has inspired me to create this platform, in the hopes that it will also encourage others and help our wonderful equine and canine friends.

Equine Self Selection
I offered Diddy his oils for a couple of days after seeing Vicky. Diddy was happy each time to have them applied topically to his sweet itch. I believe he has been getting some relief from having them applied and will continue the process".
I will definitely continue the process. I've seen a change in him and I want to continue that... happy horse, happy life, less strife! xx.
You were kind, patient, gentle and so knowledgeable. You were love and kindness to all, especially Teddy.
I think we all enjoyed the session very much.
I very much think it would be beneficial to others; there is too much reliance on chemical and synthetic "medicine" these days.
Vicky came to see my horse a couple of weeks ago who has SI issues, she brought along an array of different herbs & laid them out & explained to me what they were & what help they did for the horse like pain, emotion etc.. My horse went for t willow branch which is for pain which is understandable due to his back. Vicky was very helpful in explaining everything to me & ways to move forward in his pain management, I would highly recommend!!
Mulin seemed much better after the session. I believe the laminitis has improved.
He seemed much better in himself and was able to walk better and I even caught him doing a little canter around the yard! .
I was amazed at how Cleo responded to the process. She seemed to instinctively know what she did and didn't want. Which she also kept up after the session.
I noticed a complete difference in her behaviour. She seemed much more content and less anxious. Definitely something I will be continuing. As and when things crop up, and to generally help with maintenance / well being etc.
